EN: Street Art Oslo is proud to present Fancy Soda, a solo exhibition by Øivin Horvei in collaboration with ad-busting collective Subvertising Norway.
On 30 April 2022, 50 adverts promoting Horvei’s Fancy Soda creations were installed by Subvertising Norway in advertising shells around Oslo city centre. The catch? The sodas don’t exist, and the adverts were installed without permission.
The Fancy Soda advertising campaign features four flavours created by Horvei - Jelly Papas Royal Pigeon, Top New 100% Alien Goo, Baggy Eyes Dream Soda & Melancola. The fictional brand emblazoned across each ad reads Fatty Morganas - a disambiguation of the latin 'fata morgana', meaning mirage.
At the centre of the exhibition is a bottle of Jelly Papas Royal Pigeon soda, which brings Horvei’s favourite of his four fictional sodas to life. This is presented alongside the Jelly Papas Royal Pigeon advertisement and Nima Taheri’s photo documentation of the stunt on April 30. At the back of the gallery, in the smaller of the two rooms, is a series of original artworks further demonstrating Horvei’s ‘Consurrealism’ art practice.
On the occasion of the exhibition, Street Art Oslo has produced a zine documenting the project; and Horvei releases an NFT edition (available on OpenSea).
